Accountable care organizations are slowly gaining in importance. This implies that a group of doctors or hospitals come together to offer medial aid and advice to needy patients. In fact these services are especially for those patients who are chronically ill and cannot avail the advice of a doctor frequently for various reasons- these are the kind of patients who can avail these services.

This is one of the schemes of the United States government to reach out to the needy patients through medical services which will be offered at a much lower cost. In this way medical facilities can be stretched to the most downtrodden people of the society.

Why is an Accountable Care Organisation Needed?

In order to cater to the medical needs of the citizens, such coordinated and comprehensive medical care has been facilitated to reach out to a vast number of people. About 93% of people in USA suffer from multiple chronic disorders which have no immediate recovery medication.

In the ACO model a team of doctors, health and medical service providers come together to ensure a better standard of medical care for needy patients. This care is also provided at a lower cost. This program is initiated with the help of the government medical fund and is such a program where all are benefitted along with the service providers.

Medicare Shared Savings Program: Through this program, the doctor, medical practitioners and medical service providers come in the same platform to work for improvement of the infrastructure of the medical services for those patients who cannot afford expensive health care. This system checks whether unnecessary medical costs can be lowered or removed.

Advance Payment ACO Model - This model is for those medical service providers who are already interested in the Medicare Shared Savings Program. In this model the rural health care providers and physicians join hands to give a better quality health care service in a co-ordinated way. The candidates under this model receive monthly upfront payments which they can utilize to improve the conditions of medical infrastructure in a particular rural area.

Pioneer ACO Model - This model is advisable for those who have been part of the co-ordinated care providers already. In this model health care providers move to more populated areas and work on better incentive structure so that more people are benefitted through less expense in health care costs. Also the scheme ensures that it covers people with chronic diseases and until the time it achieves that target, the work of Accountable Care Organization will be deemed as unfinished.

Thus such organizations have an important role to play in the healthcare sector.
